You can make a cage from bamboo to contain the crabs. Soft crabs must be separated so they do not fight and damage each other. Give each crab half of a tiny fish per day. If the crab has not eaten its food, it is sick and must be removed. In 10 to 15 days, the crabs will have a hard shell and can be sold.

Onion seedlings need a healthy, loose soil. Add well-aged manure or compost. In the rainy season you need to raise the seedbed so the onion roots will not rot.

Our threatened farmers
Supermarkets in the USA bulge with everything from strawberries to steak, but this generous supply is threatened by a destructive agro-industry. In the book Perilous Bounty, Tom Philpott outlines looming disasters in California and the Midwest.
The Central Valley of California produces an astounding 80% of the world’s almonds and half of the pistachios, besides a lot of the fresh fruits and vegetables eaten in the USA. This phenomenal production is irrigated with water that is mined, and can never be replaced. The Central Valley used to be a vast wetland. From 1930 to 1970 a network of dams and canals were built to capture snowmelt from the Sierra Madre mountains, for irrigation.

Spreading organic agricultural practices
through training videos
On 9 September 2021, Access Agriculture Director for International Development, Paul Van Mele, gave a presentation at the 20th Organic World Congress, which took place digitally and on-site in Rennes, France, 6-10 September. His talk “Spreading organic agricultural practices through training videos” illustrated how digital learning tools and strategic partnerships are crucial to help reach more farmers to transition towards agroecology and organic farming across the global South. The presentation elicited great interest and led to several new exciting partnerships currently being developed, such as with the Intercontinental Network of Organic Farmers' Organisations (INOFO), the Global Alliance for Organic Districts (GAOD) and Regeneration International. In addition to Paul, Access Agriculture was represented at the Congress by Executive Director, Josephine Rodgers and Communications Specialist, Phil Malone.
