The pollinated flowers of groundnut shrivel and form a needle-like structure that grows downward to the soil. This is called a peg. When these pegs successfully penetrate the soil, pods are formed. Groundnut yield depends on the number of pegs that can penetrate in the soil. By rolling a drum on the crop, the branches spread on the ground. It enables the pegs located on the upper part of the branches to enter the soil.
