International Mother Language Day for farmers

Access Agriculture Image

Access Agriculture is supporting UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day on 21 February 2019.  With 76 languages available on the “farmer to farmer” training video platform www.accessagriculture.org.

This year the theme is “Indigenous languages matter for development” and Access Agriculture has videos for farmers translated into local languages. UNESCO believes in the importance of cultural and linguistic diversity for sustainable societies. #MotherLanguageDay

By delivering content in indigenous languages it is understood more quickly, easily bridging the smallholder farmers’ information gap. Ways of how this is done is shown here:  Learning through the eyes of others

Access Agriculture has languages from Africa, Asia and Latin America and boosts south-south learning.  In future more content will be translated in local languages to link people together and increase farming incomes.

There has recently been an increase in the number of videos available in the Bangla and Hindi languages of South Asia.

In order to reach remote areas all of the videos can be seen using the Digisoft Education Smart Projector which is solar powered, so there is no need for mains electricity, phone signal or internet.

If you would like to sponsor translations into your language please contact Olivier Gbetin, Translations Officer, olivier@accessagriculture.org

How you can help... Your generous donation will enable us to give smallholder farmers better access to agricultural advice in their language.
