In his inspiring speech to the Access Agriculture Entrepreneurs for Rural Access (ERAs), who were participating in a training programme, the Director General of the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Dr. P. Chandra Shekara, described each ERA as ‘a digital library and a mobile encyclopaedia.’ He thanked Access Agriculture for giving the opportunity to MANAGE to host this important training programme.
“ERAs will be proud of their profession, because this smart projector, which is like a magic box, is now in their hands to convince farmers of the benefits of good agricultural practices,” he added. “With this magic box, each of you is a superman, because the superman status comes through this training and skill development programme.”
Dr Chandra Shekara was addressing the 18 ERAs, including 11 women, belonging to seven ERA teams, who had been selected from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States of India, based on a call for proposals that laid a special emphasis on young women entrepreneurs.
As part of the programme, a smart projector kit was distributed to each of the seven ERA teams, followed by a hands-on training, led by Access Agriculture entrepreneur coaches for India, to help the ERAs familiarise themselves with the digital tool and upgrade their skills to become successful e-extension and advisory service providers and skilled facilitators in screening training video shows.
The third day of the event was devoted to Access Agriculture Partners’ Event, chaired by Dr N Balasubramani, Director (Climate Change and Adaptation), included a handover ceremony of the smart projectors to the partners, followed by a short familiarisation and planning session.
The partner organisations that received the smart projector included MANAGE; M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF); Watershed Support Services Activities Network (WASSAN); Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (CSA); Green Foundation; Trans-Disciplinary University (TDU); Satat Sampada; International Development Enterprises (IDE-India).
Access Agriculture Executive Director, Josephine Rodgers, thanked the MANAGE Director General and his team for their warm hospitality and strong support.
