20 January 2023, Bengaluru, India — Access Agriculture, Global South’s leading multimedia knowledge resource for farmers on agroecology, climate change adaptation and rural entrepreneurship, has been specially invited to take part in the 'Millets & Organics International Trade Fair 2023,' 20-22 January, in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
“We are pleased to invite Access Agriculture to participate as an international expert at this mega event, as it will add value to our programme and the organic movement in general, including the millets development,” said Manoj Kumar Menon, Executive Director, International Competence Centre for Organic Agriculture (ICCOA).
India is making a strong push for recognition of the importance of millets and the United Nations General Assembly has declared the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets. The Millets & Organics International Trade Fair 2023 is being organised by the Government of Karnataka, with ICCOA as knowledge partner, against this backdrop.
The international non-profit organisation, Access Agriculture, has been empowering rural communities by enabling them to access expert and farmer knowledge and experience across the Global South through quality training videos and audio files, which are available in over 95 languages, including over 460 videos in Indian languages.
Its knowledge products, centred around South-South learning, have reached an estimated 90 million people in over 100 countries since 2012, leading to improved rural livelihoods and sustainable food systems. Based on its impact and model, Access Agriculture won the International Innovation award for Sustainable Food Systems from the Swiss Government and FAO in 2021 and the Arrell Global Food Innovation Award for excellence in community impact in 2022.
The International Trade Fair will serve as a common meeting place for companies and networks involved in organic food and agriculture from across the world to share their expertise, knowledge and business practices.
Access Agriculture’s Executive Director, Josephine Rodgers, who is one of the featured speakers at the Trade Fair’s international conference, will make a presentation on ‘Scaling Organic and Ecological Farming through Entrepreneurs,’ describing the organisation’s unique video-mediated learning approach and last mile delivery model focusing on youth and women changemakers.
The Fair also hosts a world-class exhibition with over 300 stalls and an international pavilion, where Access Agriculture has been invited to showcase its knowledge products and services to visitors. Farmer workshops and food courts serving millets and organic food will be some of the highlights of the Fair.
“We are very grateful to ICCOA for inviting us to this important event as we are exploring ways in which our partner organisations in India can use our knowledge resources to scale natural and organic farming and contribute to the country’s mission to transition towards a healthy and sustainable food system,” said Ms Rodgers.
