The workshop was organised by the Uganda Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services (UFAAS) in collaboration with Access Agriculture and Young Professionals in Agriculture Research & Development (YPARD) as part of the Global Programme for Small-scale Agroecology Producers and Sustainable Food Systems Transformation (GP-SAEP). | Fostering a culture of collaboration among young entrepreneurs in Madagascar | |
| “Our new teams of Entrepreneurs for Rural Access or ERAs, who are just starting on their entrepreneurial journey, gained a boost of motivation from this collaborative environment for progress and innovation,” said Karine Rakotoniainasoa, Access Agriculture Entrepreneur Coach for Madagascar, describing the success of the First ERA National Meeting that was held in December 2024, in Antananarivo, Madagascar. During the meeting, members of 10 ERA teams engaged in meaningful interactions to share their experiences and perspectives for the upcoming year. “The meeting offered an excellent platform for fostering collaboration among the ERA teams. The old ERA teams, who are experienced entrepreneurs and have built a good relationship with the local farming communities, were a source of inspiration for the new ERAs,” Karine added. | Spotlight on a young changemaker: Sylvestre Jackson Karara from Rwanda | |
| Sylvestre Jackson Karara, co-founder of Uruhimbi Kageyo Cooperative (UKC), has been recently highlighted in a publication by the Mastercard Foundation as an agripreneur whose business is helping “Rwandan farmers produce fodder and vegetables more profitably through hydroponic farming”. Read more ... Jackson became a pioneer in training farmers, who have limited access to land and resources, to produce high-quality fodder using hydroponics – a soilless technology that provides feed within about a week. As an Entrepreneur for Rural Access (ERA) since 2021, he has been actively screening Access Agriculture videos in Kinyarwanda language on hydroponic fodder and livestock farming, among others. In three years, Jackson and his team members were able to train 7,300 people, of whom 70% were women and 60% youth. “For our business, quality is crucial, and this starts in the field. So, we are very pleased with the Access Agriculture video library.” - Sylvestre Jackson Karara Jackson has been featured in Access Agriculture’s book “Young changemakers". | Donate to Support young changemakers in India | |
| Through this project, we anticipate the growth of a network of empowered young women entrepreneurs in rural India. They will not only provide for themselves and their families but will also bring to the local women farmers, a wealth of new ideas from around the world to improve their lives. This will contribute to the transformation of the food system in the local communities, leading to healthier diets, sustainable livelihoods and a reduction of agriculture's environmental impact.
Please be one of the wonderful people to make a donation at GlobalGiving and share this opportunity with your friends. Help us raise funds for our current campaign!

| From soil fertility to cheese | |
| More than 10 years ago, a project in the high Andes in Peru set out to improve soil fertility with local communities. So, during a recent visit to the community of Colpar, in Quilcas municipality, we were surprised to hear rural women talk about how they had established a women’s association selling cheese and yoghurt. It seemed a long leap at first, but as we spent more time with the community we were reminded once more how development impacts can divert from initial intentions.
