“Agricultural technologies can be disseminated to the farmers through videos. This initiative will become popular among farmers, I believe”, said the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), Mr Md Mosharraf Hossain.  He was chief guest at a day long workshop on “Videos for Farmers: prospects in Bangladesh” jointly organised by Agriculture Information Service (AIS), Access Agriculture and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) on 6 August in the AIS conference room.

Mr Hossain added that farmers’ field experiences and success stories of farmers should be shared on time through quality videos.

Agriculture scientists and researchers from different government and development organisations, members of different print, electronic and broadcasting media and other distinguished guests participated in the workshop.

The session was presided over by Dr Md Jahangir Alam, Director-AIS.  Special guests included, Mr Md Golam Maruf, Director General, Department of Agricultural Extension and Dr Humnath Bhandari, Interim IRRI Representative for Bangladesh.

Dr Ahmad Salahuddin, IRRI Consultant and South Asia Coordinator for Access Agriculture, was very pleased with the interest in “farmer to farmer videos” and stressed how Access Agriculture is working in partnership with AIS and other public, private and civil organisations in Bangladesh. He urged everybody to “find out more by visiting www.accessagriculture.org to see the different videos available in more than 75 languages.”
